Stearic acid, an essential growth factor for Trypanosoma cruzi.
SUMMARY The function of serum in the composition of culture media for trypano-somes was investigated with Trypanosoma cruxi. Serum supplies stearic acid, essential for the growth of this trypanosome. A liquid heat-steriliz-able medium, composed of peptone and known chemicals is described. The growth of T. cruxi in this medium reached 70 x lo8 trypanosomes/ml.
متن کاملRab32 is essential for maintaining functional acidocalcisomes, and for growth and infectivity of Trypanosoma cruzi.
The contractile vacuole complex (CVC) of Trypanosoma cruzi, the etiologic agent of Chagas disease, collects and expels excess water as a mechanism of regulatory volume decrease after hyposmotic stress; it also has a role in cell shrinking after hyperosmotic stress. Here, we report that, in addition to its role in osmoregulation, the CVC of T. cruzi has a role in the biogenesis of acidocalcisome...
متن کاملTrypanosoma cruzi Peptidases: An Overview
Peptidases are a group of enzymes which have a catalytic function that is to hydrolyze peptide bonds of proteins. The enzymes that hydrolyze peptide bonds at the aminoor carboxyterminus are classified as exopeptidases, and those that cleave peptide bonds inside the polypeptide are endopeptidases. Endopeptidases, such as cysteine-, metalo-, serineand threonine peptidases as well as some exopepti...

متن کاملDual role for transforming growth factor beta-dependent signaling in Trypanosoma cruzi infection of mammalian cells.
Expression of functional transforming growth factor beta (TGF-beta) receptors (TbetaR) is required for the invasion of mammalian cells by the protozoan parasite Trypanosoma cruzi. However, the precise role of this host cell signaling complex in T. cruzi infection is unknown. To investigate the role of the TGF-beta signaling pathway, infection levels were studied in the mink lung epithelial cell...
